interesting. sucks if it is soon as wii u still pretty young.

I read that nintendo is going mobile, not direct ports of their games but new IPs for the mobile world.

Is the Nintendo NX going to be under powered and 3rd place on arrival once again?

Quote
When asked how Nintendo NX will stack up against Sony and Microsoft's forthcoming hardware revisions—namely PlayStation 4 NEO and Xbox One Scorpio—Fils-Aime told Bloomberg (via Nibel): "For us, it's not about specs, it's not about teraflops, it's not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it's about the content."

Nintendo's upcoming NX will be a portable, handheld console with detachable controllers, a number of sources have confirmed to Eurogamer.

Nvidia is providing the core technology that powers Nintendo's next generation NX console.

Sigh, was hoping to see Nintendo compete with Sony and Microsoft, not interested in portable consoles.

As always Nintendo sure can come up with interesting concept consoles, given their strongest (and more or less only market) these days is the 3DS, I wonder if this is going to help boost sales of the Switch or if it'll just eat into the 3DS sales.

Personally I brought the Wii late in its cycle as a bit of a bring out at parties for a bit of fun console, and it did the job but I never took the console serious as a gaming device, more of a party trick. I brought the WiiU and was utterly disappointed at the lack of support.

Can't see myself buying this at all. Portable gaming just isn't a priority and I can't see this thing even matching the PS4 of Xbone in terms of what it could do as a home console.

I'm not sure who they are aiming this at but it's not looking too good. Other than the brands Nintendo own I don't know how much support there will be from Devs. While it's good they think outside the norm they just don't think past the games they are strong in.

Well this image is supposedly the list of devs supporting it:

But to me the biggest kicker was that one of the games they seem to flash about on it alot was Skyrim... really...? A 5yr old game that lets be fair, if you haven't played it and / or finished it by now, is it really going to sell you a new console?

Plus, what is the battery life of this thing going to be when portable? Either it'll get hot as an iron trying to process full on console games and die a quick death, or it'll dumb em down to gameboy level to a point where it's almost pointless to play. Just do not get the hype for this.

given that people's phones have massive screens and plenty of CPU/GPU power, i think this will be another toy for rich kiddies

This leaked spec actually appeared on Twitter before Nintendo's official reveal. Thought by many to be out of date or fake, we can confirm that Nintendo has briefed developers recently with the same information. One source tells us that the 4K30 aspect of the spec was not part of the developer presentation, but everything else was. We can assume that the clock-speeds are theoretical maximums, and not the 768/307.2MHz combo we've confirmed as locked in retail hardware.

CPU: Four ARM Cortex A57 cores, max 2GHz
GPU: 256 CUDA cores, maximum 1GHz
Architecture: Nvidia second generation Maxwell
Texture: 16 pixels/cycle
Fill: 14.4 pixels/cycle
Memory: 4GB
Memory Bandwidth: 25.6GB/s
VRAM: shared
System memory: 32GB, max transfer rate: 400MB/s
USB: USB 2.0/3.0
Video output: 1080p60/4K30
Display: 6.2-inch IPS LCD, 1280x720 pixels, 10-point multi-touch support

So just some quick notes, in no specific order:
  • Breath of the Wild looks awesome, I can almost see myself playing this
  • With one exception, well two, the hardware is better constructed than I thought, the JoyCons have a reasonable feel to them but I am glad I have small hands
  • First exception: That stupid kickstand, all the critique of it is correct, its flimsy (I know its designed to be sacrificial if you dock it but really) and its way off centre, the thing falls over if you look at it sideways
  • Second exception: and this one really annoys me, the f*(king screen is plastic.  This thing is going to scratch
  • The UI, is pretty clean for a console
  • The switch part of switch, all these dickheads saying you could do that on Vita, PSP, etc. are on drugs.  Son playing Zelda, telling my son I want the TV, him grabbing the console out of the dock and continues to play, seamless

Also, read a lot of the reviews out there with a grain of salt, both positive and negative, I have seen some of the worst reporting around in a long time (or maybe just more obvious).  It is clear that a lot of reviewers have formed an opinion, good or bad, and then spend the whole review justifying their impressions.

Overall, it is just a tablet with a couple of fancy controllers, but it is Nintendo, the first party games are going to be awesome, the third party we will wait and see.

Picked up a switch . Totally obsessed with Zelda . Just an awesome game .

Never picked up a U because first time ever a nintendo console never had an original zelda game .

Kids love it too . Mario kart 8 a big hit .

Real lack of software though

Given that the Mario kart is just the same one from wiiU it limited me to Zelda.. I finished Zelda and now the switch is collecting dust.. Mario looks good though

Oh, come on, aren't you going to play through Skyrim again on it, oh and then once more in PSVR... talk about milking a franchise.
