If they release a PS5 in the next 18 months I'm giving up. I've only recently gone to the Pro. PC gaming sounds like it will make a comeback for me.

Really can't see it happening until 2020.

Having said that I did hold off on a Pro purchase just in case.

If we buy my son a PS4 I might get a Pro and do a little swap ;)

I keep debating a Pro, mainly for VR. This just adds to the confusion.

By the time PS5 is here, you will need PSVR v3....as you know...there's always something new in tech just around the corner.

I fully suspect the PS5 to be revealed/released 2019-20 or 2020-21. I assume it to be the latter as I suspect The Last of Us 2 and Days Gone will send off the PS4 with a bang in 2019, maybe a teaser for a future reveal at the 2019 PlayStation Experience show in December.

Hard to say what's going on with Death Stranding. Hideo could shock us and ship it in 2019-20 or it could be a 2020-21 release for both the PS4 and PS5.

Be interesting to see what specs are behind the console as surely Sony will be looking very closely at the Xbox One X and aim higher than what that's packing. I just hope they mitigate those CPU bottlenecks to help games breathe.

There's always going to be a bottleneck somewhere, the real talent comes in doing the most with what is available and there are some awesome titles that do just that (HZD comes to mind). I have a feeling that one of the next major bottlenecks may not be in the console though... NBN anyone?

https://www.dailystar.co.uk/tech/gaming/736518/PS5-Release-Date-News-PlayStation-5-COMING-SOON-as-Sony-ramps-up-new-console-marketing
Quote

A new job listing on LinkedIn appears to reveal that Sony is ramping up its PS5 marketing team ahead of a potential reveal and release soon.

As we're seeing Microsoft announce more information regarding its Xbox Scarlett project and the xCloud platform it's built on, we're seeing Sony gather staff behind the scenes to ready a formal announcement of its next PlayStation console.

On LinkedIn, the new job listing for Senior Product Manager states (bold for emphasis):

"At PlayStation we are working at the frontiers of immersive experiences for our users. We are looking for an entrepreneurial Product Lead to join our Intelligence Platform Group. As part of this hands-on position you would work across Partners, Product and Engineering and contribute to development and growth of PlayStation Intelligence Platform.

"You will own the roadmap for next generation PlayStation campaign."

Never mind backwards compatibility, I hope the future consoles get rid of discs altogether (continuing on from my previous post). The size of games nowadays make discs redundant as they can't even fit the whole game. Plus the ps4 spitting out the discs mid-game was frustrating! USB would be the way to go in terms of physical copy, as it gives people the option to trade-in/sell their games.

I just don't see Sony going the USB route due to piracy.

Yeah this.

But they could get around it by having a propriety USB connection? Make it hardware locked or something. If they wanted to they could. My guess is they will make all games online somehow. Back to the log in every day M$ thing.

Sony has anti-piracy technology in the PS4, surely they could make something similar for the USB.

Not everyone in the world has internet, or good speed / data limit.
Sony will not get rid of discs in the next generation.

Also as Jono said, I personally only ever have a few physical games (with some digital). Once I'm done I'll trade it in.

SP games are dying a slow death. Being connected is the future so the less fortunate will get left behind. Spaz doesn't care either way as this gen has been a dismal failure.

I cant see discs going anywhere anytime soon pure because as Rossi said, internet kills the market in a lot of the world if physical isnt an option. If physical went away the biggest problem would be Sony and Microsoft hold all the power over setting pricing, on PC there's plenty of options to shop around and find better deals, consoles you're stuck with 1 each.

I have seen game cards at JB HiFi that is redeemable on the MS digital store but I am all for trading or reselling, getting a few dollars back to shed off a game is always welcome for this stingy bargain hunter I am.
