An update on next-gen: PlayStation 5 launches late 2020

http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2019/10/08/an-update-on-next-gen-playstation-5-launches-holiday-2020/?fbclid=IwAR00orxnehDQkPu1bYc0nw1mn8KII-vlZJVD7A0tz4Q1P2XIT_gEUnrl0Hw#sf221066721

It will will feature backwards compatibility, a SSD and a brand new controller.

There are two key innovations with PlayStation 5’s new controller.
 - adopting haptic feedback to replace the “rumble” technology
 - adaptive triggers, which have been incorporated into the trigger buttons (L2/R2). Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain

Not sure why you'd risk your job posting something online that's already been known for a while.

And asking in your post for people to not share it. That takes the cake lol

CPU: 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency)
GPU: 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz RDNA 2
RAM: 16GB GDDR6/256-bit
Storage: Custom 825GB SSD
IO Throughput: 5.5GB/s (Raw), Typical 8-9GB/s (Compressed)
Optical Drive: 4K UHD Blu-ray Drive
Expandable Storage: NVMe SSD Slot - Not proprietary storage. Recommends waiting for compatibility list.

Top 100 most played PS4 games will be backwards compatible at launch. PS5 too fast for some games, need to be optimised before being able to played.

Advise people to skip the actual Sony presentation as it was just their GDC speech (aimed at devs).

Main talking points:
SSD I/O throughput twice as fast as xbox (how will devs utilise this 5.5GB/s compared to 2ishGB/s on xbox?)

Just 825GB SSD (does system software use any of this?)

More SSD storage will require replacing the internal drive with 3rd party off-the-shelf drives which dont yet exist (current drives are too slow),  and there will be no external option to play ps5 games from (can play ps4 games from usb drive)

PS5 focusing on delivering better sound options, with 3d positional audio and ray tracing (this was probably most interesting part of presentation, everybody has phsically different ears so will need different sound settings)

Spaz's M.2's are pushing 10gb so Sony can go get farked with that claim  :P

Xbox Series X System Specs
CPU: 8x Cores @ 3.8 GHz (3.66 GHz w/ SMT) Custom Zen 2 CPU
GPU: 12 TFLOPS, 52 CUs @ 1.825 GHz Custom RDNA 2 GPU
Die Size: 360.45 mm2
Process: 7nm Enhanced
Memory: 16 GB GDDR6 w/ 320mb bus
Memory Bandwidth: 10GB @ 560 GB/s, 6GB @ 336 GB/s
Internal Storage: 1 TB Custom NVME SSD
I/O Throughput: 2.4 GB/s (Raw), 4.8 GB/s (Compressed, with custom hardware decompression block)
Expandable Storage: 1 TB Expansion Card (matches internal storage exactly)
External Storage: USB 3.2 External HDD Support
Optical Drive: 4K UHD Blu-Ray Drive

Just to put the specs of the two next to each other. Looks like Xbox slightly edges it in specs, but generally this has always been the case each gen no?

Spaz isn't playing the specs game this time round. Without knowing more about the UI's and other features the raw specs are more irrelevant to this next-next-gen (NNG) than ever before.

Also just to note, both Fony and M$ are pulling their waffles with the 4k @120mhz claims looking at those released specs and very few TV's will support it. Let alone the HDMi capacity needed. Spaz expects 16k @600mhz with 900fps or this NNG has already failed  :P

This

I watched a dev reaction who was more impressed with ps5 specs than xbox. Superior sound and speed may produce a better experience than a couple extra TF.

Do they have any cooling? He was talking about drives which will specifically fit into the ps5, any mis-wording was an error on my behalf.

They do come with a heatsink but the Spaz doesn't use it as the MB Spaz chose has a heat-plate thingy covering them. It's more the bandwidth that PCi 4.0 offers and the tech that gets the speeds. Spaz assumes the PS5 will be using something direct connected into the MB/FSB to get the speeds. This would explain the none changeable nature. This is fine but considering these are more than likely a proprietary PCi 4.0 (just using this as something to compare to) then they should just say that. Not that it's 'not available yet'. Either way the speed you get is amazing. Spaz can't tell you how fast everything is on the new PC.

Pick a game you have that's a slow loader and Spaz will test it to see if it's faster (if Spaz has the game)

https://www.aorus.com/AORUS-NVMe-Gen4-SSD-1TB

O.T Spaz's sig is the novabench tester/benchmarker. Spaz's actual score is close to 5000 but Novabench won't accept it as the HDD score is too high. Spaz contacted them and showed/explained it to them and they am amended the score so Spaz could upload it. Basically they removed the HDD score.

In regards to the SSD thing;

- assume 825 is the usable space. its probably a 1tb drive (this is purely me guessing)
- the is an EXPANSION slot for another m.2 card. They need to meet specific speed requirements (they are PCi 4.0 )
- can use external drive to store ps4 games and other crap that doesnt need the fast speeds

I agree that the ps5 tech seems more impressive then xbox. As most tech sites have already explained, measuring tflops is pretty pointless as it is not apples to apples anymore.

It is not a direct quote, if you want the exact wording you need to watch the presentation.

If this is what ps5 is aiming to do, for everyone, then it's a game changer.

Must watch this with earphones. And eyes closed
