What OS are you running?  Assuming windows (mine is Linux), have you executed the Jar file you downloaded?  It should come up with a console (I am assuming) and then it will be right.  For your internal network you don't shouldn't need any port forwarding or anything.  The first thing I would check is Windows firewall to make sure it isn't blocking anything.

I couldn't get the server working without port forwarding Homer, even for those computers on the lan, actually connecting to each others normal games is no issue just the server.

If it is like the XBox version, it will be good and bad.  The good is that crafting is a lot easier as you select rather than having to remember ingredients, the bad is that it is a couple of releases behind the PC.  Oh, and on XBox the maps are tiny.

The recipes are actually pretty easy to remember if you play enough of it. Having put a fair amount of hours into Minecraft, I pretty much know all the recipes off by heart and the console version felt slow and sluggish in crafting compared to the PC version. As you said, we all know the Console version will always be behind and that's because Mojang don't control the updates for it, 4J Studios do. I really think the console version is just a cash grab. Just my :2c:

Yeah, console split screen is more fun with my son than us being on two computers... and we don't get told off for yelling through the house although we have been known to use Razer Comms

Just been playing minecraft on one of my servers with my son.  Great way to bond when you aren't at home but boy does this notebook keyboard suck.  May have to bring my nostromo back up.

Oh, and the server you all know about is running 1.7.9 now

News on the PS4 version. Upgrade deal confirmed.
https://mojang.com/2014/05/minecraft-on-xbox-one-ps4-and-ps-vita-soon/

Minecraft: Playstation 3 + Vita Edition will be available on the PSN in August.

Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition will be released on the PSN in August. It brings significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance than Playstation 3 + Vita Edition.

If you’ve bought Playstation 3 Edition from the Playstation Network you will be able to upgrade for $4.99.

Players with Playstation 3 Edition or Playstation 3 + Vita Edition saves will be able to import their worlds to Playstation 4. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to transfer your saves from Playstation 4 to Playstation 3/Vita. There are technical reasons for this; we can make worlds bigger without too much stress, but shrinking them causes all kinds of problems.

Cross-platform play will not be possible between Playstation 3 + Vita Edition and Playstation 4 Edition.

It's official - Mojang being bought by Microsoft for $2.5 Billion

Bugger, I think it stood for something as an independent.

Bought the PS4 version on the weekend. Never wanted to play it before as always thought it was just a kids game , but have been playing co-op with my bf lately. He used to play it on PC a long time ago so he's taught me how to play. Made a house, animal farm and crops, then mined for iron ore. Once we had enough iron to create full armour and sword each, we started exploring dungeons and the Netherworld for chests to loot. Now focused on mining for Diamonds to create full set of Diamond gear to prepare for the Ender Dragon fight. My gosh, it is quite addictive

If you ever get it on PC, there is an unofficial WpR server... although I don't think anyone has used it in a while as I haven't been prompted to do upgrades in ages.

Cheers Ant. Although most likely won't get it on PC, not much of a PC gamer myself. Have only played StarCraft (the first one) and some Counter Strike.

Seems Minecraft Creator, Markus Persson, is pretty depressed with his life as a billionaire, saying "he feels isolated"
http://on.mash.to/1UkOk4e

You have to feel for him, I know he made some statements in early Minecraft days saying he'll stick by but if someone offered me 1 billion, I'd accept too.
