My XBox is at the opposite end of my house from my router and for various reasons, can drop off the network. I really don't want to not be able to play when this happens. I also, sometimes, block internet access on various times at home (mainly when my son is playing up, the internet is such a good punishment ) and again, don't want to stop playing.

Seems a bit odd? Outside some of the Asian countries inter-webs around the world aren't that good. Seems like they will be killing a major part of the market?

With the rampart piracy that exists on xbox, it doesnt really suprise me. But yeh i agree it is odd and am curious to see if it becomes true
I think it's more to do with piracy and will need an ' always on ' connection.
