Further to Jons RCB comment http://www.computerandvideogames.com/475384/miyamoto-explains-nintendos-renewed-passion-for-the-core/

I would seriously consider buying a Wii U if they started to care about us.

Big words from Miyamoto there.

hopefully they deliver

Possibly a good idea. Maybe for the littleman as some of those games would suit. The future of gaming is doomed and this proves it.

Cool concept but don't think it would be worth it for me, I was never a big Ninty fan.. now if Sega did a Genesis or even a Dreamcast version...

Raspberry Pi, Pi-Play and the right website for ROMs is cheaper and more useful.  Lot more emulators in the one solution.  From memory I got mine working with a DS3 as well.  Haven't used it in a while.

This too, a lot cheaper... (wasn't going to mention it as I wasn't sure what the rules were on emulation discussion). Even phones (android of course not icrap) can play anything up to PS2 these days.

Yeah, Pi sounds like the way to go. You have one of them don't ya Spaz? Give it a break from bitcoining! :P

I was on the edge of creating a MAME cabinet... had the pc all setup but lost the time to create the cabinet.
Pretty sure the PC is in storage somewhere. With work now holding a spanky 60-in-1 tabletop, it has rekindled my enthusiasm a little... so it may still come about.

In all seriousness though, it's a great little package for the kids to play and for myself to get a nostalgia trip.

Emulation is fine, illegal acquisition of ROMs is not!  Note, there are some legal sources of ROMs as well and some that are now in the public domain.

Cheers for the clarification Ant

As for this console, I think another issue that would stop me seriously thinking about it is that it's only going to play the games that come preloaded.

Nice! Quite a contrast between them there haha

I was tempted by the NES mini, but I was always a Sega gamer growing up so I wouldn't have the nostalgia kick from it like others will.

Yeah, I need to rebuild mine.  Even had it working with XBox 360 controller.  Until I decided to use my Raspberry Pi for something else.

is it worth setting this up on pie or setting up homebrew on the wii? my brother in-law gave me his, im not sure what I should do with it.

If I want my kids to play it, would it be easier to navigate homebrew wii or on the pie?

Haven't really looked into homebrew, but the Pie is pretty easy, XBMC style navigation.

I am assuming everyone talking about running a Nintendo emulator has a phyiscal copy of the game to avoid any piracy concerns

to be fair, homebrew is more about homegrown applications on a Wii (based on a quick search).  RetroPie is a system emulator for various historic systems.  There are titles in the public domain that will run on the various emulators.
