PS4 Tips and Tricks
« on: January 29, 2014, 06:05:22 PM »
Ok, I am going to start this thread and then lock it.  Feel free to send a PM to Myself, Arogantz, SgtEeyore or Blue_Bear to get items added.  We have other discussion threads for general discussion, but thought this would be a good place to keep specific tips and tricks as they come up.  If requested we can do this for other platforms as well.

And the first one is:

If you are doing a hard drive upgrade on your PS4, ensure that the firmware you have downloaded to your USB is at the same level or higher than the firmware currently in your PS4.

edit: I have been asked to put up the specs of drives for the PS4.  This is the official line from Sony:

Supported HDD
Only the following type of hard disk drive (HDD) is offically supported with the PS4:

2.5 inch (internal type) *1
Serial ATA (Parallel ATA is not supported)
*1 Proper operation is not guaranteed for all models.

While other drive types may work, we only recommend using offically supported drives with your PS4 system.

Not that it says much ???

Also, for those of you who have done an upgrade, can you PM me with the specific details/model of the drive and I will start a list here.

Hard Drives
WD 750gb Black 7200rpm
Seagate SSHD (ST1000LM014) 1TB
HGST HTS721010A9E630 1TB Travelstar 7K1000 7200RPM 9.5mm SATA 6Gb/s Hard Drive

Just a little tip that helped me. So I get fine download speeds when it comes to PC but whenever I download a large file on PS4, it seems to take hours so I done a little searching and found this.

Basically you run a proxy on your PC and tell your PS4 to run through that which in turn increases download speeds. Helped me with the large Borderlands patch.

Does this still work? Just moved across from X1 to PS4, not happy with the speeds

Each persons experience could vary but I use it all the time. You just have to manually edit the notepad file which is all detailed in the link.

I just find the download speeds to be more consistent compared to when I don't use it.

I also have my PS4 in the DMZ on my router.

I have no idea why but my PS3 gets 40/20 speeds and my PS4 gets 20/10? Both on EOP. Just weird the PS4 seems slower?

I think you'll find Privoxy to show better results than what the DMZ will. I only use DMZ to ensure nothing is in the way when the PS4 tries to talk things.

I originally tried this but it made no difference for me which is unusual.

I wouldn't have the first or second clue how to even do that?

Hold down the PS button, go to accessories and turn down the light on your controller to save battery power :) Sick of them things running out like a rechargeable in a vibrator
