Sony has been saying for the past wee while that ps vr will launch in the first half of the year, so not sure if one could really take this gamestop thing seriously at the moment.

What i really want to know about though is the price

Yeah it seems to have gone from $400 to $700 plus in most peoples estimations. That price with a new baby in 5 weeks rules me out Im afraid. Maybe next year!

I need to start putting funds aside.  This is tech I have been waiting for since I read Neuromancer in the '80s

If that is the case, then wouldn't oculus rift be a better investment? I can see the power of the system being a limiting factor for PS VR.

My take on this is that PS VR is a nice consistent platform for developers so they only have to tune to one set of hardware/software rather than the plethora of PC systems out there.  I think that it is possible to get the better VR experience out of the rift.

My other issue with the Rift, which is not really with the rift itself, is that I will also have to upgrade my graphics card which makes it a much more expensive proposition.

edit: don't let work interrupt your typing ;)

I'm quite keen on some kind of VR or on head screen.

It needs to work nicely with my headphones though :)

We’ve just gotten confirmation that the Australian pricing for PlayStation VR is $549.95.

We’ll also be receiving it in October 2016.

At this point we have no idea what the additional cost will be however. Sony has confirmed this price will not include the PlayStation Camera, which is actually required for PlayStation VR and retails at $89.95 in Australia.

There’s also the move controllers to consider. For the best possible experience you’ll also need a couple of those as well.

Most likely, all up. You’re looking at paying around $650-$700 depending on your situation. I already have the PlayStation Camera and a couple of Move controllers, but I suspect I’m in the minority there.

I was just reading that article and it's a good thing to point out as I don't know many people that have the camera or move controls,  added cost on top.

I do however have the camera and move controls so minimum cost for me  :troll:

I would just need to buy 1 more move controller as I have the camera and 1 move controller, move stick and and that ps move assault rifle gun.

I'm still skeptical about playstationVR. If it can't deliver a 3D experience with decent graphical fidelity then I cant see myself getting into it. Everything I have seen so far is lame.

Project Cars is meant to work with VR in future - if it can deliver that level of graphics and gameplay then I would be sold.

I gave away my move controllers :(

But at the end of the day I probably wouldnt use them - they are gimmicky - but give me the headset and a dual shock and something  like fallout, doom, eve, and I'll be a happy camper

Anyone who has decided to get in on the first wave of Playstation VR should probably get their order in quickly. Both EB and JB are taking orders now. Does seem to be quite popular judging by talk on various internet forums. $550 (+ delivery if needed).

https://www.jbhifi.com.au/games-consoles/platforms/ps4/playstation-vr/945818/ (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/games-consoles/platforms/ps4/playstation-vr/945818/)

Also sounds like there will be package deals at some stage - which include the camera and move controllers.

If you were a bit dismayed when it was revealed that the PlayStation VR would not come with the required PlayStation Camera peripheral, may you dis no more. Tech Insider reports that there will be a bundle that comes with the basic PlayStation VR package, as well as a PlayStation Camera and one PlayStation Move controller.

A company rep made the statement during an interview with President of Sony's Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida. As for why this bundle isn't the de facto way to buy a PlayStation VR, Yoshida said that "plenty" of people already own a PS Camera. What exactly that means is unknown, as Yoshida did not divulge sales numbers or percentages.

Another point not specified by Yoshida or the Sony rep: the price of this special bundle. Purchased separately these items would add up to roughly $500 ($400 PlayStation VR unit, $60 PlayStation Camera, $30 PlayStation Move controller), but usually these sorts of all-in-one packages present some sort of savings to make them more appealing. Either way, at least it sounds like there will be a VR option for you, regardless of what you already own.

Threw a pre-order down at JB Hi Fi, given you dont pay until it gets released I thought I'd secure one and decide later when we hear and see some more (guessing it will be a major point at E3)

How much hassle is it to cancel if,  say,  a bundle with camera is announced and released?

If referring to JB, you just email them via the form on their site and they usually reply back the same day with a confirmation of cancellation.

So I preordered an October  unit from gamesmen.com.au which were linked from Sony's site along with eb and jb.

It's a little more expensive since I got express delivery, and they charge the full amount up front which is crap, but I kinda sold myself on the hype and really want one. Also, when I found out that it can be used for any game as a TV (non vr,  equivalent to 226" tv) it helped seal the deal.

RIGS = $84.95
Until Dawn: Rush of Blood = $24.95
Playstation VR Worlds = $54.95
Tumble VR = $14.95

Eve Valkyrie is a decent VR experience, but it's just a simple multiplayer game with no depth behind it. 1 map, objective just to dogfight, the end.

It's not like many people are still playing it on oculus.

That is the thing about VR so far - people don't use it daily because there is no depth to the games yet - so the word 'novelty' is used.

I think developers need to get creative to think about better ways to experience VR. Traditional games seem not to be all that suitable for it - especially with motion sickness issues (which is why so many FPS games are using teleportation).

CNET has a write-up about VR at E3.

What needs work?

Farpoint, a sci-fi shooter on the PlayStation VR, looks good, but it wants you to move around the game world as if you were walking. To that end the team created a brand new controller called the PlayStation VR Aim. It's impressive, even if it looks like something made from cheap PVC piping. But moving around using a thumbstick made me feel wildly ill, something I hadn't experienced before using VR. I felt sick for at least 45 minutes after playing a 15-minute demo and actually felt dizzy while playing. Sean Hollister felt something similar with the Resident Evil VII, as did more than a few other attendees.

I expect that will be more useful for pc players as the amount of active players right now is very low. This is currently a problem for multiplayer PC VR games.

Good to see cross platform play though.

So it looks like I was lucky enough to get a 1 in 100 Sony special edition PSVR's which comes with a customised stand (with my PSN ID on it) and some other little bonus (cost is the same as retail $549)

The email stated it comes with:
1 x PlayStation®VR
1 x PlayStation®VR Demo Disc
1 x Personalised and Limited Edition Display Stand
1 x Extra Bonus (Just some fun but we hope you’ll have a laugh)

Getting close now.

Not sure yet - looking forward to the demo disk.

Altho, I'm very keen for Sci Fi space shooter so Eve and whatever the star wars x wing thing is high on my list, along with a fps of sorts - so Farpoint maybe. I think battlezone might be a really good use of vr too.

I was also interested in Robinson initially because of the gfx, but I watched a gameplay demo recently and thought it may be boring (for me anyway)

I think most of the reviews were on the positive side, with the caveat being that they are taking into account the price point compared to the other VR headsets, kind of a you get what you pay for vibe.

Going into this with eyes open to the experience and understanding this isn't going to be high end amazing cutting edge graphics (and lets face it, the decision to use 6yr old controllers as the base of movement isn't confidence inspiring), I'm still very much looking forward to this, but still also have no idea what games to pick up on it.

+1 Sony :troll:

Pretty much already happened, been near impossible to find move controllers for months now and you can only preorder the repackaged ones at about $120 depending on where you go.

Holy crap!
I've wanted to offload my PS3 for a while. Have a move controller with it that was barely used and will be unlikely to get PSVR... maybe i'll part with it for a little some *wink wink*

How much would you be after for the move control mix? I've got the move controls (navigation + bubble one) but the PSVR needs 2x bubble.. don't like that I'm going to have to fork out for the 2 pack when I already have 1.

I didn't realise VR had another box to run it. I thought the Pro was the grunt? Lots of cables to deal with.

Plenty of demos are being run on standard, not Pro PS4s.  Also, the box isn't grunt supposedly, it's just a video splitter so that the TV can show what is being presented to the left eye, or pass through the video when the game needs it (ie. The Playroom VR that shows a different viewpoint for the players that don't have PSVR on).

Still no idea what games to get at launch, probably pick up PS VR Worlds as it seems a glorified demo of a few different games but works as a show off the device to friends and family kind of thing.

Rush of Blood (the on rails shooter) hasn't been reviewing all that well and Battlezone looks a bit simplistic but could be fun. Might pick up Eve as it looks the most impressive, but being MP only (I think it might have some AI training modes?) I don't know how much play I'll get out of it.

I wish they'd tell us if Job Simulator was going to get a local release, it's up on the US store but I tweeted the devs and they replied saying no news on other regions but more info soon.

A note for those with HDR: According to Giantbomb the PSVR connection box will pass through a 4K signal to the TV, but it will not not pass through HDR.

To use HDR the hdmi cable will have to be unplugged from the connection box and plugged directly into the TV.

Strange design decision - it means those wanting to use HDR will have to arrange cables every time they want to use the PSVR.

Also, if you're on the fence for physical games, remember there will also be a good catalog of digital titles available too like Job Simulator etc.

Yeah saw this being discussed elsewhere, such a strange decision especially given the push for PS Pro console and 4k / HDR yet the PSVR box gimps it..

Non issue for me as i dont have a 4k or HDR capable TV. But a strange decision none the less

Post by: Ant on October 11, 2016, 12:20:41 PM
My guess would be that the various HDR standards came together too late to make it into the box, and it is hard to do straight passthrough with HDMI (I believe) due to the security on it.

Not sure if it's crossing any of our forum rules, but since another unrelated Xbox thread  openly discussing downloading from overseas stores...I signed up for USA psn store this morning and downloaded the 18 title demo disk. It only took a couple mins (from the ps4, had issues in browser)  . No idea if the content is good yet obviously, buy highly recommended for the simple fact of having lots of crap to test out with the headset!

Oh, and after almost 50 odd years I have finally found something that can make me motion sick.  I found both DriveClub VR and Eve Valkyrie had a nauseous affect on me!  I still managed to win the race in DriveClub, it really is a natural way to race, but I didn't feel healthy after it.  Similar with Valkyrie but, to be fair, I may still have been recovering from DriveClub.

Strangely RIGS was fine!  Oh, and the kitchen demo ain't that scary!

Ok so going into this I kept my expectations as low as possible, I knew it was a new tech and the Ps4 didnt exactly have the grunt of a high end PC and the Vive and Oculus whilst selling well enough havent exactly blown VR up to the levels expected.. however..

I am literally blown away by PS VR.. it's just something that everyone needs to experience to understand how immersive it is.

I kicked off by playing the Underwater Decent 'game' in PS VR worlds, it's more or less an 'experience' sort of thing where you don't do much but look around and observe as things happen, but when
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I was physically trying to push away and step back from the thing haha!

I then played the 'Kitchen' Resident Evil 7 demo, again not really a game, more sitting there as things happen, it was creepy and gave me a jump scare a couple of times and I drew back away, can't wait to see how RE7 plays in VR.

I then sunk about 2hrs into Job Simulator, good fun little game and worth a go in my opinion for the relatively cheap entry price, I've only played 2 of the 4 scenarios so far. Had a bit of a moment where I went to put the controller down on the 'table' (read: virtual table) in front of me at one point too!

Going to give Rush of Blood a go now, will come back and post thoughts on it soon.

Yeah I gotta hand it to the guys at the Sony Kiosk in Parramatta Westfields, I went over in my lunch break and spoke to them about my order, they followed it up and got the warehouse to dispatch it immediately (this was at 1pm), I had it at 4pm! Top work by those guys and put some lost faith back into Sony staff for me.

I've heard that Eve has an amazing intro and the launch sequence is a great feeling.. but the rest of the game is a let down.. I am keen to try it though.

Ok so I played the first level of Rush of Blood, the negative first as it's very noticeable as it's a dark game, the screen door effect.. mostly in dark areas and loading screens, for the most part during gameplay its not as noticeable.

The good stuff.. the sense of speed on the rollarcoaster is great! and the tracking (using 2x Move controllers) for each gun in your hands is spot on accurate, lots of secrets, hidden things to shoot and high school tracking for friends and global etc. Oh and a few nice little jump scares that got me haha!

Haha I'd believe that! That first high drop rollercoaster part made my stomach turn like a real rollercoaster would, I've spent my of my time in the Virtual Reality world playing either that or Job Simulator (FYI if anyone is a trophy hunter, the platinum is easy as pie for this).

So, 1 week in and I thought I'd write something up. But I'm on my phone and can't really be bothered, so I'll keep it short :)

In summary, money well spent. Is it perfect? No. Has it provided a new level of gaming experience? Absolutely.
I've used it everyday (mostly on Eve) and still find the immersion mind blowing. I've definitely acclimatised to it and have sessions on it lasting the entire night. I'm constantly looking forward to playing more, and infact dislike the idea of playing a normal 2d game now! Although I'm sure bf1 will get me back in the rhythm tomorrow.
It has also opened up a huge amount of genres and games that I would not normally give a shit about (eg Tumble vr, job simulator, hypercube, Rush of blood) and made gaming a whole new and fun experience.

Let's hope the software support continues, but given the fact there was such a huge line up on day one (it's sending me broke, and I barely even scratched the surface) with a tonne more titles coming in 2016, all signs are pointing in the right direction.

In summary, money well spent. Is it perfect? No. Has it provided a new level of gaming experience? Absolutely.

Could not agree more!

Certainly has it's flaws, some could be fixed with updates, others with the way Devs approach making titles for the VR experience, but most issues are completely drowned out by the immersion into the worlds.

To put it simply, the first thing I did when I boosted up the device was start PS VR Worlds.. looking around the title screen alone and the sense of being there had me sitting there with a sheepish grin on my face.

Here's a review of the device from Angry Joe, he sums it up pretty well I think.

I watched their review of the games, and it seems they are misinformed about EVE microtransactions, so that means Rush of Blood, Rigs and EVE are the must buys.....which is good, because i was going to get Rush of Blood and decided between the other 2.

Rigs didn't do much for me, love Rush of Blood and am enjoying Eve although I am having to slowly build up a tolerance for it.  I did the training missions and first couple of AI battles last night, only a little bit of nausea so getting better.

Post by: AkyraStrike on October 21, 2016, 10:52:51 AM
Despite some negative reviews for Rush of Blood, this is the first full game I'd recommend to anyone, it's fantastic.

I haven't jumped on getting Eve yet, the demo looked amazing, but then cut off just as it was getting good, talk about a tease. I didn't get any motion sickness from the demo, but it wasn't really long enough to tell. I think I might pick it up next week.

Rigs hasn't interested me at all so not too bothered there.

Yeh there is a lot of misinformation about Eve and micro transactions. That Reddit post is good and true.
There is no need to spend money on it. Ships are gated by xp and in game salvage. By the time you unlock it, you'll generally have enough in game $$ to by it.
That being said, I have 4 or 5 fighters unlocked and went back to using the first starter one - it's my favourite.
Started leveling the heavies recently and still using the starter one.

Btw I'd probably recommend sticking with fighters if you have issues with motion sickness. In a heavy you aim your main weapon through head tracking which may cause you extra issues while Rolling and stuff. I dunno. Ymmv. I'm fine with it

so from my first night, this is cool.

Apart from EVE inverted controls, i can see how the game could be good, so i'll probably buy that. and then i think i'll go with Rush of Blood when i get move controllers as RIGS seems really weird to me, just cant get the hang of it to risk $85

battlezone actually feels good too, but not $85 worth of good.
driveclub VR is awesome....i miss my simrig
thumper is good, i really used to be addicted to TapTap Revenge on my phone, which is why i liked this

Awesome Sgt. Full Eve has options to invert etc so all good there. I picked Eve and bz up for $69 but not sure if they are that cheap still.

I'm up for multiplayer Eve and bz anytime. Did anything make you feel sick?

So I picked up Eve last Thursday but have been up in QLD since then, last night was my first chance to play it.

Happy with the purchase, thought it would give me a bit of motion sickness and it did just a little but I played for about 3hrs last night without having to stop. I reached rank 10 and gave it a run with the starting fighter, the first heavy and the second fighter, haven't tried a support ship yet (though I'm guessing those only come in handy when in a wing with friends)

Keen to team up and give it a go with anyone else who has it.

Ok, somebody put up an Eve night and I will probably jump in.  I need to spend some more time ranking up and building up my tolerance (this is Karma for me as I have never been motion sick in my life).  I am enjoying BF1 at the moment but still love the VR headset!

PS VR titles with planned PS4 Pro support

Quote
At the very least, three additional PSVR games have announced support for the PS4 Pro: Eagle Flight, EVE: Valkyrie, and Bound. Those three games will join Battlezone, Thumper, Robinson: The Journey, and Farpoint. Note that Robinson: The Journey and Farpoint are not yet available, with Robinson launching just prior to the PS4 Pro on November 8 and Farpoint arriving later this year.

This game. Lol. Holy shit. Lol

Cod does it again

Controls are horrible. Sound is horrible. There is no collision detection so go on right ahead and fly through that capital ship.

It's worth firing up (if you manage to figure out how to get past the EULA lol, even that is fucked) because it does look crisp and has a nice background.

Oh and the explosions. Fuck me lol. This campfire has better animations  :camp:

For the most part i've only tried demos and i wanted to try stuff before i bought them.

The demos ive played are
Battlezone - going to buy the full game on saturday
rigs
eve valk - demo was poo and not representative of what the game will be like
drive club
thumper - quite a nice looking game and plays well im just not into those types of games
tethered - fun game ill buy this eventually.

and ive tried the cod jackal assault.. which was terrible.
hyper void vr levels - pretty fun
vr playroom - pretty cool would be awesome to have full games of these.
world war toons - avail on us store - made me feel sick after a few rounds and just feels flat.

i have also watched allumette  which was awesome, also avail on us store (def recommend watching it)

Ill get vr worlds eventually, and theres a lot more i want to.. im pretty amped for the game vector 36 so hopefully that game doesnt take too long to come out

Unless you can get this cheap (like... $20) I wouldn't recommend VR Worlds, its essentially a glorified demo disc, played each game once and never went back to it.

I've been wondering this too. I don't have any 3D TV's except for my 24" 3D Sanyo which I use as a monitor on my PC so if the VR headset is a replacement for a 3D TV then I'll definitely bump it up the list. Would love to watch Avatar in 3D again if the VR headset has a real good sense of depth.

Title: Re: PlayStation VR
Post by: Ant on March 30, 2017, 12:02:03 PM
So, based on a sample of two: "Despicable Me" and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" I have a mixed impression of 3d on PSVR.  First, the good, the 3D rendering is probably the best I have ever seen, including theatres and IMax.  The depth and separation were first rate.  Now, the not so good, motion blur was terrible, seasick terrible.  It may not be much worse than on the TV, I will have to check, but because it is so close and the screen moves with your head it was really noticeable.

Oh, and the typical screendoor effect was there as well and, as per most VR content, was more or less visible depending on the media content.

What would I choose to watch a 3D movie on at home: 1) Viera passive 3D; 2) Samsung Active 3D (except the glasses are always flat); and 3) PSVR.

Nope, and I'm really torn.  Having an HDR TV is making me want a 4K Blu-ray  player, damn you Sony.  Thinking about an Xbox one S rather than a pro.  Have to see what discount I get with the new job.

Here's a couple of other VR games that probably don't warrant their own threads at this point, the inpatient looks creepy and seems to have a link to Until Dawn according to the description, but Bravo Team and No Hero's Allowed seem like short 'experiences' kind of games at this point.. but at least VR is getting some support and Skyrim VR could be sickeningly fun..

Bravo Team

Bravo Team is set in a fictional modern day Eastern European city. When your escort mission goes wrong and results in the President’s assassination, a country threatens to tear itself apart...and your team along with it.

No Heros Allowed/b]

No Heroes Allowed! VR is a real time strategy game where you become the God of Destruction and, together with the Badmen and Badmella, aim for world domination!

The Inpatient

Discover who you are before it’s too late in this PS VR Exclusive set in the Blackwood Sanatorium, over 60 years prior to the 2016 BAFTA award-winning Until Dawn.

Folks with PSVR- is it worth getting if you don't have a PS4 Pro? Don't quite have the space for another TV and was considering it as an option, but I'm a bit concerned about the performance.

If you're considering one, I'd wait for the refreshed model to release first at the end of this month.

I'm quite happily running it without a PS4 Pro, although it may be a case of not knowing what I am missing. My next upgrade would be to a Pro. As for using it instead of a TV, I wouldn't go for that. I use it for VR gaming and content only.

With the way the current model PSVR set up is, I've actually connected mine up to my OG model just so I dont have to keep fiddling with cables to get the benefits of the pro for standard games, honestly dont see a difference in a large number of the VR games.

Yeah, I swap my cables for HDR (even on the original) and then don't play VR for a month or so, then switch them back and lose HDR. Definitely worth waiting for the new model, also the integrated earbuds look good although maybe not for multiple users.

Dirt rally however is entirely vr compatible, and its a solid game.

Its 90 percent of the reason why im not going to buy gt sport

But there are other games which are quite fun on psvr, psvr isnt something you want to buy for only one or two games.

Ive tried the cinematic mode a few times for non vr games but... i much prefer the tv for it.

Really considering on picking one up now with the current sales.

Since I will need a 2nd move controller and currently have 1 from the days of PS3. Should I just pick up another PS3 move controller new or use since I have the official sony charger dock as well or should I considering buying new as surely these older models battery may be shorter in life?

Looking at around $45 ps3 move controller vs $120 ps4 move controller twin pack. ill probably end up getting a charger dock one day too.

That's exactly the one I was thinking of. if you have two HDMI ports available on your TV, that is all you need:

I only have one HDMI port available on the TV so I need a switch as well:

I have yet to get these. My only real concern is that the switch will not pass through HDR but the specs seem to say it will.

I've got a headache and haven't had coffee today so my head is hurting trying to comprehend how this splitter works.. do you plug the PS4 into the (input) splitter, then have it output to the TV & PSVR, then the PSVR output to the TV?

If so, does that mean you need it to take 2x HDMI ports, so if you want to use PS Pro in all its glory you'll use 1 hdmi source but need to change to another source to use the PSVR?

Yes! Can you see my diagrams above? If you want to see what the PSVR is outputting and not what the PS is sending to the PSVR (which might be interesting) you need a second HDMI port on the TV or a switch.

If you don't care about other people seeing, on the TV, what you are doing in VR you could do away with the connection between the PSVR and the TV.

@AkyraStrike to further clarify the above, this is all due to a single limitation on the original PSVR box that does not allow it to pass through HDR.

So, this work around isnt required if;
- You dont have a HDR tv, and/or
- Have a V2 PSVR which passes through HDR just fine now

Yeah I know, I've got a V1 PSVR and a 4k HDR TV, so whilst I'm not entirely fussed on finding a solution as my PSVR has barely seen any use for the better part of a year, it would still be nice to have it set up this way incase something takes my fancy going forward

Picked one up today, so I'll set it up tonight and report back.

Since I dont have too many HDMI devices, my current plan is to plug the PS4 and VR into 2 HDMI slots directly on the TV, and use the ARC slot to pass audio into my home theater.

That'll leave me with a spare HDMI on the TV for 'something' (xbox for UHD blurays maybe? lol). Pretty sure my home theater passes through 4k just fine, but not sure about HDR - so plugging stuff directly into the TV just seems like the simplest and easiest thing to do for now.

Title: Re: PlayStation VR

@Ant @AkyraStrike

TL:DR, I'm probably going to return the switch.

Setting up the new TV was a mammoth task. I think I was up to about 1am fiddling with shit.

I wired everything up in the 'ideal' solution (via switch etc) and started testing. Wasnt long before problems started. None to do with the TV, but jeez if it could go wrong, it did go wrong. Highlights were;
- Used God of War as a test bed for 4k and HDR. Wasnt long before HDR stopped working. Pulled my hair out trying to understand if my ps4 and/or tv and/or settings and/or cables and/or switch was causing the issue. Turns out........the fucking game is bugged with HDR. Every other game was fine.
- Eventually also found an issue with a dodgy cable which caused me some funky results
- Forgot to switch on HDR/Deep colour setting on 1 of my HDMI ports, causing HDR to not work when using that port

There were a few other bits and pieces too (audio passthrough via ARC wasnt giving me 5.1 FFS!!) but meh.. Mix it all together and jeez, what a headache!

ANYWAY

The switch works fine for the PS4. It passes through 4k/HDR and i didnt have an issue running games that use those features. Once i solved all the other random issues, I even got the PSVR running on it via another HDMI port.
BUT
This is where my problems specific to the switch started. I had a lot of trouble switching back from PSVR to normal ps4. All of a sudden, the HDMI slot for the ps4 was being gimped in the same fashion as the PSVR. Even after a reboot of the ps4.
I think its because the switch doesnt properly pass through on/off requests. It looked like the PSVR was still on and engaged, and perhaps because it was on, all the outputs from the switch default to the lowest 'technology' for compatibility. It wasnt until i unplugged the PSVR unit from the powerpoint, and restarted the ps4, did it realise again that my tv could do HDR.
Further, i noticed that my TV would turn on the ps4 when i select the appropriate HDMI slot, but this function did not work when its plugged in via a switch.

At this point it was late and i couldnt be bothered with it anymore. Admittedly my testing methods at this stage were all over the shop, and id like to test and troubleshoot a bit more. I might try again over the weekend, but im pretty convinced its no good.

For now, my PSVR box is hidden directly behind the TV next to the HDMI slots. Since using it is a project in its own right with unpacking the headset, plugging it in, finding headphones, plugging them in, cleaning the lens, finding the controllers......i figure that adding an extra step of plugging/unplugging a HDMI cable on the side of the TV isnt a big deal for the time being.

Title: Re: PlayStation VR

Damn, that is annoying. I think I could solve it with another switch (as opposed to the splitter that you got), but it would get messy and expensive. Might scan the web and see if anyone has solved this.
Title: Re: PlayStation VR
Post by: Ant on October 15, 2018, 10:52:57 AM
Ok, I am stupid. The switch can be used either way, so swap the AC1781 (splitter) for an AC1760 (switch), then you can do this:

That way the port will be switched and only one device, the PSVR or the TV, will be communicating protocol to the PS4 at any one time. I would only switch it when the PS4 is off although it shouldn't really matter.

edit: for me, with one input, I will need two switches.
Title: Re: PlayStation VR
Post by: raz81 on October 15, 2018, 03:50:46 PM
I ended up revisiting this yesterday (and redoing my cabinet!) to see if i could approach it with a fresh set of eyes. And yep, it works if i pretty much use the splitter as a switch. Basically, it has issues when both the PS4 and PSVR are plugged in, and then when the PSVR is engaged.
To solve;
- Only have PS4 plugged into TV from splitter
When you want to use VR;
- Unplug HDMI cable that is being used to plug splitter directly to TV (for PS4 output)
- Plug in the other cable that runs to the VR box (output from splitting into VR box)
- Turn on VR & switch the TV to the correct HDMI input
When finished with VR and wanting to go back to normal ps4
- Turn off VR (hold the power switch until it beeps and goes red)
- Unplug HDMI cable
- Plug in the other HDMI cable and switch the TV back to the original HDMI input

Provided those steps are followed in order, its all good.

I am guessing i could simply swap the splitter to a switch to save the unplug/plug in hassle, but i have positioned it so that it is easy to get to.

I'm torn if i should replace it though, since i know it works and passes through everything just fine and the switcher doesnt specifically call out HDR compatibility like the splitter does. Thoughts?

Switching cables kind of makes the splitter obsolete. I might try a switch later in the week if I get a chance.

Oh ya, it's totally useless as a splitter for what I'm using it for at the moment.  It's just a more convenient access point to my cables lol

Looking closer at the switch it has 3x inputs and 1x output. But we are dealing with only 1 source device for inputs (PS4) and need multiple outputs, so I'm not sure how that's gonna work

HDMI comms is two way so think of the tv and the psvr as the inputs, the PS4 as the output

Hmm, really? Ok. I think I may just leave my set up as is. I looked through the manual for the switch vs splitter, and the splitter has a bandwidth of 18mbps vs the switch of 10mpbs - which is a little low and may not have the capability of passing through all the weird and wonderful variety of HDMI/Chroma/Res/Refresh Rate/etcetc options that exist (may not impact what the ps4 is capable of though. Who fucking knows. Its all getting a little hard.)

Thanks sony for the utterly fucking dumb shit of a VR Box v1
