Knowing Rockstar with their previous releases, probably a 2017 launch but delayed for 2018.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will release worldwide in Fall 2017 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems.

I'm a little disappointed they took the '2' route, as Red Dead Redemption was already the second in the series, though I guess maybe this indicates a direct sequel?

Whilst I enjoyed RDR for the most part, I don't really get the hype, I got about 3/4 of the way through RDR and was bored.

This is a prequel to RDR. I too felt RDR got a bit tedious in parts but to me, the ending is amazing and powerful. Defintely one of the better endings I have played. Unfortunately you got to keep at it. I hope Rockstar learn from this and perhaps follow the GTA V style and tighten up the intensity and flow of the story.

As for the story, my guess based on the picture is that third from the right is Bill Williamson and people have speculated the centre dude is John Marston. If that is the case my take is that they will be telling the story of when John Marston was in the gang and explore the events that led him to quit the gang and go straight, so to speak.

I am stoked being a huge western fan and the multiplayer , if they implement what they learnt from GTA V.

Trailer looks good, captures the setting well. Hopefully they dont put busy work like picking flowers in it - the wild west is full of possibilities.....and picking flowers isnt high on my list of things to do.

In the scene with the canoe there is a dream catcher hanging from the tree....... native Americans perhaps in the game?

Looking forward to some gameplay footage over the next 12 months.

Looks like it's going to be visually stunning as the first was for its time. I agree with @SmashedPumpkin though, more story driven content and less busy work might keep me playing.

I'm also a western fan. Played Gun, RDR 1&2, a bit of Call of Juarez, and a number of games on PC. Red Dead Redemption was excellent in my opinion. What attracts me to Redemption 2 though is the way they are talking up Red Dead Online. Being the fat Mexican bandido in Redemption was fun, but if they bring in features from GTA Online it will be a great drawcard. I would really love to see a heist system for red dead. Robbing the bank, the train, etc.

News of redemption 2 has spurred me (pun intended) to load up RDR on the xbone. Copied across all my data from 360, so I can just carry on where I left off. Still have a few things to get for some of the outfits. I was surprised to see people still playing multiplayer.

Will definitely be on the lookout for special editions as I missed out on golden guns, deadly assassin outfit and warhorse in the original and regretted it. I know these items get superseded thru the game but they were good value up the start. Deadly assassin outfit also reminded so much of Lee Van Cleef.

They do sell currency in GTA Online but everything is free and able to be worked towards if you're not lazy whereas EA and Bungie believe in the RNG system of lootboxes which is cancer.

Yeah not so much loot boxes, but microtransactions. Whilst GTA Online isnt quite pay to win, some of the things are so ridiculously expensive that it would be tempting for people to drop cash for their quick fix.

I have fond memories of RDR's online.. standing high on a rock watching out for cougars as a mate hunted animals.. only to be jumped from behind by the damn cougar myself.. those things were quick.. and having some epic shoot outs across the map with randoms. Hoping that RDR2's MP is worthwhile

America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed.

After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.

I would expect the loot boxes or cash cards to be in the multiplayer part of the game only - like GTAV

Gtav made over a billion dollars in lootboxes, so it's most likely going to be in there. They probably just won't officially sell the game in Belgium or Norway due to the gambling laws.

As far as I know GTA V did not have lootboxes at all - it was all shark cards (buy in game multiplayer cash with real money). This type of system is not affected by gambling laws.

I expect the EU to ban loot boxes once a few countries do it. It's how EA handles the FIFA cash cow will be the telling tale. I say sucked in for being Derek's.

Ehh more EB desperate to get more pre-owned games in that they can sell $5 less than a brand new game.

This will sell well, it's R* and people have been wanting a sequel for a while. It wont get anywhere near GTA numbers, but it'll do well enough to be considered a big success.

*push the boundary with micro transactions

Fixed it for you :p

lmao!!!!

Spaz will get this in the $2 bin in a year or so.

For the record - no microtransactions anywhere in the single player game

Been a long time since I played a game until my eyes hurt. Loving the game, but others may find some elements annoying. Some entertaining sidequests so far with the typica l Rockstar randomness and humour.

Played a bit last night, only up to chapter 2, start was a bit slow but I can see myself spending a lot of time with this game.

Got distracted by Starlink a bit today though haha

The HDR settings on ps4pro for this game are awful. I turned it off until a patch drops, looks better.

Did you make sure the sharpening (and some other settings I cant remember) are turned right down on your TV. I had a real problem with HZD and one other title I can't remember because I got "double" sharpening. Looked shocking.

I have HDR setup well for other games so dont want to mess with settings too much, but issues have been widely reported so it seems it is a problem with the game rather than with my settings. I mainly noticed terrible black levels which I could not fix in settings.

Edit: Karak from ACG (who has both premium consoles) commented that hdr is "broken" on ps4pro for RDR2, but fine on xbonex. May need some more research

There are several threads on reddit about this HDR issue, but also affecting xbonex, example below - everything is washed out and there are no deep blacks. Drastic settings changes are needed on tv (and dial up the in-game hdr brightness setting way above the recommend level of 100 for LCDtv) to get even a half decent image, but I would expect a patch to address the issue.

Hair growth in the game is slow, my beard just reached level 7.

Hair growth in the game is slow, my beard just reached level 7.

Have you used tonic? The general consensus seems to think beard stops a stage 6 without tonic...

Quote
Hair tonic doubles growth rate, stackable (×4, x8)

Hair tonic lasts up to two stages of hair growth

You can only grow one increment at a time before needing a screen fade (sleeping, respawning, fast travel, cut scenes, etc.)

Hair pomade applied by barber lasts 5 in game days (2 if done yourself)

Hair doesn't grow past stage 7, beard goes to 10

Beard stops growing without tonic at stage 6

GROWTH STAGES – REAL TIME

1 – 1.6 hrs
2 – 1.6 hrs
3 – 3.2 hrs
4 – 6.4 hrs
5 – 9.6 hrs
6 – 16 hrs
7 – 16 hrs
8 – 12.8 hrs
9 – 12.8 hrs
10 – 20.8 hrs

These are all without the hair tonic buff.

No tonic, I was just testing how long it would it take to grow out, and yes it is actually level 6 not 7. May have to tonic up to see the mega beard then. Shaving isnt really an annoyance due to how slowly hair grows.

There are awesome outfits in this game - and not a microtransaction in sight. The crafted outfits from a trapper are a standout - you hunt to get the pelts required to craft hunter/mountain man style outfits.

Very impressed with the game overall, but I also dont want to post anything about it as its better to experience everything without prior knowledge. Best open world I have experienced, and I love the "deadwood" feels with the atmosphere, setting and music. Have not seen any dustbowl/desert biome yet, so I dont know if there will be one available later in the game.

I'm letting the beard grow but I've gotten a hair cut (similar to my haircut in RL).. my partner saw me playing and commented "Hey that guy looks like you... if you completely gave up on life and became a hobo.." so uhh.. I guess thats a complement?

I finally saw a horse to buy which is better than the preorder horse. Dropped almost $800 on this stylish mare only to find out, as I rode out of the stable, that it is tiny. Its very fast, but its speed adds to the ridiculousness as burly arthur gallops through the countryside on his tiny horse.

What sort of put me off - I was in EB on the weekend with my son, and they have an offer - trade 2 games and get this for $29.
I saw this and was also tempted. I played some of the first but i think i got distracted by other titles at the time and never really played much of it. The cowboy genre doesnt really interest me as much as a sci fi / ancient / modern rpg style game. This triggered me to pick up Assassin Creed Odyssey :)

I also recall seeing RDR2 grossed over $750million first week making it the highest grossing game in its first week or something along those lines.
Goes to show yet again that people want a good story / single player game.

The phrase rockstar used was "the single-biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment.", which includes movies.

Quote
Rockstar Games’ “Red Dead Redemption 2” skyrocketed to a $725 million worldwide retail consumer sales during its first three days. The studio’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, said in a release that the game had achieved “the single-biggest opening weekend in the history of entertainment.”

The number eclipses even the highest opening weekend in box office history: Disney’s “Avengers: Infinity War” grossed more than $640 million in its first weekend on the big screen, according to data from Box Office Mojo.

No matter how you look at it, thats amazing figures and shows theres still plenty of room for story driven single player games.

When I hit ch4 I started hunting all the legendary animals that I had uncovered. Been doing mostly that for 4 days and crafted some nice threads - including what looks to be assless chaps.

I notice it everytime I ride past someone as I sit much lower than average.

I also couldnt get level 10 beard, despite using 5 tonics while on level 9 and waiting a long time. Eventually had to cut it for a mission (I now look like Kurt Russel in Tombstone - Wyatt Earp).

ALL THE ONLINE MODES IN RED DEAD ONLINE

Shootout & Team Shootout
Classic gunfight modes with unlimited lives. Compete to rack up the most kills before the timer runs out. Sudden death will trigger in the event of a tie: whoever gets the first kill wins.

Make it Count - This is their battle royale mode
A true test of resourcefulness in two game modes: use nothing but a bow and a handful of arrows or throwing knives to be the last one standing. With a gradually shrinking player area, there’s nowhere to run.

Most Wanted
A tactical race to the top. Every kill pushes you up the scoreboard, but watch out: the closer to the top you are, the more points everyone else gets for killing you.

Hostile Territory
Work in teams to control the land. Capture a territory to start racking up points: the team with most points wins – or you can win outright by capturing every territory.

Name your Weapon
Demonstrate your personal specialty in this free-for-all or team based match: the trickier the weapon you use to land the killing blow, the more points you get.

Free Roam Missions
Head over to the Stranger icons throughout the map alone or with your Posse to embark on Free Roam Missions. You’ll see some familiar faces along the way, and these missions can vary based on how noble or nefarious you are – for example, an honorable gunslinger may be asked to help escort a convoy, defending it from attacking gangs or even other players’ Posses, whereas a dishonorable outlaw may be asked to help spring a felon from the law.

A Land of Opportunities
Honor also plays into this deeper cooperative strand for two to four players that we will continually build upon. In A Land of Opportunities, you’ll be faced with a multi-part series of missions, with some parts changing as your honor changes on a larger journey to seek truth and justice, or revenge.
